Interesting History and Tidbits about Porcelain and China Makers
from both Past and Present

Royal Sealy:

Royal Vienna:
In 1719 Claude Innocentius de Paquier established a hard paste Porcelain factory in Vienna where highly ornamental wares similar to the type made by Meissen were made.  After 1744 when the Empress purchased the factory, the Austrian shield (often called the “Beehive”) was stamped on under the glaze.

Sterling China:
Sterling China Company has been operating since 1917 to present and is a large modern maker of hotel and restaurant dinnerware.  The very early year’s products were cups, mugs, bowls, etc.  Gradually new items were added to the line; body color and decorations were added and varied.

Steubenville Pottery:
The Steubenville Pottery Company was organized in 1879 in Steubenville, Ohio.  By the 1900s they were making dinner and toilet sets in semi-vitreous and Canton China, cream colored, lightweight, handsomely decorated, which were made in fancy shapes and unique designs.   By 1902 they were listed as making semi-porcelain, porcelain and white granite, dinner sets, and short sets of odd dishes, some decorated.  The Steubenville Pottery closed on December 15, 1959 with pieces marked “Final Kiln”.
